agreed... the whole thing is sick... musical talent is not carte blanche to do whatever he was doing with those kids... this guy puts it very well. I've taken to foreign news-sites online due to all the ones on my TV being about Jackson for the past while... CTV wasn't AS bad... but usually CBC, CNN, HLN, and CTV were going on about it... I get that millions of people are dying to get to the memorial or whatever, but the man was not a good guy... seriously...

This comment someone left on another news item sums it up for me. $1: It amazes me how someone who has been a walking punch line for the last 17 years suddenly gets the Jesus Christ treatment.
Who the hell cares.

yeah, all this MJ crap has really diverted attention from stuff like Iran's riots, China's riots, North Korea launching missile's every hour on the hour, Soldiers being killed in Afghanistan, Plane Crashes, Nuclear Disarmament discussions (really anything that affects the other 6 billion people on the planet) but I guess none of that really is too important

CNN and HLN are on Jackson at this very moment... CTV is in Russia with Obama... and CBC has the Hour...

Enough already. No celebrity warrants this kind of attention for this length of time when they die.

I can't agree enough. Before JACO died he was a fallen artist in disgrace. He was a drug addict, a pervert and a child molester.
Now that he has died the press has conveniently decided to ignore that he converted to Islam(not that that should have any meaning), but in the states its a not something that sparks great popularity.
The only thing I haven't heard is calls for a state funeral.
He might have been a great music star, but he NOT Princess Dianna and I getting more and more nausiated by the day by day accounts of how much illegal drugs he was taking and what a great benefactor he was to mankind and the world wasn't ready for him.
The best comment that I heard was would you let your young child sleep in the same bed with JACO with all the doors locked? I wouldn't.

Another indication of the pervasive and sickening cult of the media whereby they 'make' the news, instead of simply reporting it. Now I suppose we will be treated to Michael Jackson 'sitings' much the same as for Elvis. Let the dead lie quietly, please.

GreenTiger GreenTiger: He was a drug addict, So are most of the Rolling Stones and probably ever other classic rock artist in existence. Nobody complains about them doing drugs! $1: a pervert and a child molester. No one has conclusively proved that. $1: Now that he has died the press has conveniently decided to ignore that he converted to Islam(not that that should have any meaning), but in the states its a not something that sparks great popularity. Who cares? Instead of poking at a dead man's inadequacies, why don't we talk about the fact that the media has spent the last couple of decades making mincemeat out of him and all of a sudden he's their darling because he's dead? What a bunch of hypocritical fuckheads. The guy is dead, let him rest in peace.

Agreed. The wife has got this drivel on and I was actually wondering where all these celebs who've mounted the stage to pay tribute were when Michael Jackson was being tried for pedophilia????? If that wasn't enough, the good Rev. Al Sharpton got on and actually had the gall to claim that Michael Jackson was the reason for the colour barrier being broken and Obama being elected. I'm glad I watched it, otherwise I'd always have been under the misconception that it was Jackie Robinson who broke the colour barrier. They should rename this whole debacle, from the Michael Jackson Memorial Service to the Hypocrits Ball. What a bunch of self serving assholes.

$1: "We have city employees getting pink slips because the city dollars are not there," points out L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine. But even though city officials have asked AEG to pick up some of the public costs, the company has declined, Zine tells me. AEG did not respond to my requests for comment.
"You would think AEG would say, 'We're the ones who did this, we could have had a private ceremony and not a major public memorial.' AEG is a big entertainment company. They're going to get international coverage and tons of publicity from this."
And just what kind of city effort are we talking here?
At least 1,400 police officers to keep the peace Workers from the Department of Transportation to arrange and enforce street closures Still more workers from the Department of Public Works to keep the area clean and operating Fire and rescue specialists, just in case too many rabid fans moonwalk into one another out in the streets If you're wondering if the city might decide to stand up for itself eventually, you're not alone. Zine says the city attorney's office is looking into the public outlay of funds and may take unspecified action; the city attorney's office didn't immediate comment when I contacted them this afternoon.
And just in case you still think it's disrespectful to the dead to be discussing money like this, a note: According to Zine—who got this information from an official at the Los Angeles Coliseum—the Jacksons briefly mulled doing their memorial there. And they also were considering charging for the tickets. AEG is the promoter (?) for this funeral. http://ca.eonline.com/uberblog/ask_the_ ... opstoriesl

Republican Representative Peter King is absolutely right. I agree the whole thing is grossly overblown and a waste of media bandwidth.
I can’t help wondering, by expressing himself, what this is going to do for the politician though………

It was just another "gotcha" attempt but it failed because most people are sick of the wacko-jacko circus themselves. I'd bet that many democrats and people at large feel the same way.

Much like the OJ murder trial, all the networks care about is ratings. Whether an item is newsworthy or not, if they can spin it and get the average, mindless, non-self-thinking American to watch the cannon-fodder, they will air it. I guess that is one reason I have not watched main-stream media's news reports for the last few years. I skim the news on the web and here on CKA I find the Canadian coverage of events around the world to be better anyways.
