Naturally this is BS but it has all the hallmarks of kids not knowing
about the history and horrors of WWII. In this case of what happened to the Jews in Europe during this period. The best solution is education.

These kids need to learn that this behavior is not "cute" it is deeply offensive. There are still people alive who were victims of this and certainly their children are here and it effects politics to this day.

The best response is not insults, but education.

Well, we had Proculation on this forum cheering the actual death of several German bomb disposal people because he hates Germans because their ancestors started two world wars. Which is worse?

I think the problem in this school can be fixed quite easily by teaching about the death camps, showing the photos etc, if possible having a survivor come talk to these students. I'd bet they would no longer think it's funny.

I'm not sure what it would take to educate Proculation, since the hate seems to go much deeper.

And I'd bet we all divide the world into good guys and bad guys. I cheered when the crew of that boat overpowered those Somali pirates and killed 5 of them for instance.

That's because we "tolerate" intellectual relativism - it's a celebration of subjective views, opinion as equal to fact, arguments. It's the reason some can hind behind "that's my opinion" or "prove to me i'm wrong" or the ever-popular, "it's not a fact till i accept it as one" nonsense. You watch - someday someone will be suggesting that Hitler be excused because of his socio-economic circumstances or his psychological issues. That's when it's over

In the Grade school I was in we had a holocaust survivor come in and speak to
us. We didn't have a problem with Antisemitism but one was in the area and
agreed to speak at our school.

She was very effective. The holocaust was no longer some chapter in history
book, but something we felt even if only a little. I agree that that is what
these kids need.

I had a recent immigrant from Punjab, India (working to qualify here as a doctor - ie an educated person) look me in the eye, and, just to make conversation, say "Hitler had to kill the Jews because they owned all the grocery stores and doubled prices." I've heard similar ideas expressed by other Punjabis, and my understanding is that Indians in general are quite sympathetic to Hitler. And of course we don't need to import them, we grow our own neo-nazis, who confuse being proud of your race/culture with the Aryan crap spewed by the Nazis. So I don't think it's someday/somebody.

You could probably make a pretty good argument that Hitler was insane, and under current Canadian law would be found not guilty if he got a fair trial. It's harder to understand how a whole nation can go crazy like that.

I doubt Hitler would be found insane. He didn't hear voices, he didn't have delusions and he understood the basic difference between right and wrong. Massive genocide, while an inconceivable idea to the average savage, is a cold, cold, coldly calculated decision.

And there are countless historians dissecting that very question: How did Germany go along with it...if you can say that they even did. If the secret police keep hauling away everybody who asks where Mort Goldstein went, people stop asking questions.

I wouldn't have expressed it how you did, but I think there's merit that criticism of an identifiable group, especially rational criticism, equates to racism/homophobia/anti-semitism. It's a cheap way to ignore criticism and silence future criticism.

I think you're mixing up Israel and Jews as well here. There is no valid criticism of an ethnic group - they're not all the same, so saying that Jews.... ie criticizing all Jews is idiotic. But saying that Israel.... ie criticizing the actions of a country is perfectly legitimate, and does not amount to antisemitism. But many Israel supporters find it easy to just call criticism antisemitism and shut down any possible further argument.
