I guess it pays to spend a few hundred bucks on a lawyer to ensure your contract is legal rather than dealing out sperm like it was a card game and then worrying about the ante later.

Well... Kansas does not recognize gay marriage, therefore does not allow the partner of the mother to adopt the child, nor to have an healthcare insurance for the child, and thus is going to the natural father for support when the mother asks for support so the tax payer does not have to pay for the child's health care.
That happens in every case where a single mother needs support for her child.

If they had done it through a clinic, there would not be a problem. BUT, that costs money...

I'm tired of people having kids for selfish reasons when they're in no financial position to be having kids. If you're one lost job away from going on social assistance then DON'T HAVE KIDS! If you have to resort to Craigslist and offering $50 to have a man knock you up then DON'T HAVE KIDS!

He claims he was not paid. I don't know why he donated (the "why" didn't come up in the interview that I watched with his lawyer present) or why no one checked his donation for STD's or genetic problems. Who knows, the guy could have HIV, or some rare disease that runs in the family.

Turns out, according to that interview I was watching on CNN this morning, that the moms split up, and biological mom asked the state for health coverage for her kid.

I find this SUCH a weird, and dumb story.

Btw, EVERYONE has kids for selfish reasons.

most of us wouldn't have kids if we had to wait until we were in a "financial position" to do so. Or atleast we'd be having kids much later in life, which carries all sorts of porblems as well.

Mrs. Bart and I waited on having kids because we bought into the notion that we needed to be 'ready'. The result was that by the time we were ready she wasn't able to have kids anymore.

I made the acquaintance of one of our posters here (her husband is also a former USMC) and she got married at 18 and now, at 22, has four kids. And they're managing. I'm really happy for her and can see that she's happy as a freaking clam being a mom and a wife.

Forgive me if I'm wishing we'd taken the risk instead of playing it so safe.

That sucks dude. If you want I could send you a recording of a typical 3 year old reacting to being told "no". that usually make's me wish I was childless ;)

I don't.

(Mostly because a pool is a hole in the ground that you throw money into.)
