First, there is a big difference between being outside the WH and being within it listening to opinions from military experts and having to make a decision yourself.
Second, Assad crossed the red line before, there were no consequences which really ruined he U.S reputation and emboldened Russia to enter the Ukraine. America does not want to allow this to continue over and over while just watching these sick events.
This was a one off attack (as of now), and it might be the motivation Syria and Russia need to alter their manner. Or, it could be a precursor to more attacks and keep Assad on his toes about what further actions that could follow.
Syria and North Korea have been put on notice, finally I might add, after years of sabre rattling. China meets with Trump tomorrow and N Korea will be key on that agenda along with economic issues. One way or another, a nation leader like the nut in N Korea should not be allowed to exist on our planet, it poses a risk to everyone. So, it's a global problem whether we like it or not.
