It wasn't just this one incursion, Russia has been doing it since they started flying missions in Syria. Russia has been pushing Turkey day after day, and Turkey finally had enough of Russia invading their territory.

But yea, it's going to be an 'oh shit' day.

The Russians killed NATO jets during the Cold War for 'teensy tiny little incursions'. Since Putin wants this shit started again I'm sure he knows that it's a two-way street. Besides, I sincerely doubt that the jet strayed into Turkish airspace since it was repeatedly warned away and it entered anyway. That's not an unusual Russian behavior to push and see how much they can get away with.

Now that Ivan knows the Turkish border will be enforced it's not likely to happen again anytime soon.

This is not the Cold War and incursions, even repeated ones don't necessitate a shoot down. Especially given that this incursion occurred while fighting a common enemy. It just wasn't necessary and is going to fracture an unsteady alliance.

Obama's Syrian 'rebel' buddies shot down the Russian rescue helicopter that was searching for the downed aircrew.

That's going to piss off Putin and the Russians far more that the shootdown of the fighter (which is being reported rather calmly on RT News).

This is a resurgent Cold War and the old rules are back in play. Maybe you're not old enough to remember that crap but some of us around here and this all looks rather familiar.
