A couple of weeks ago I reached out to one of his new cabinet picks regarding the deal struck with GM in Ontario at the Oshawa and St.Catherines plant. With the $550M "grant" the federal and provincial government gave GM I questioned if this is the kind of undermining of NAFTA his team was talking about.
I was unable to obtain emails for some of the others in his cabinet as they aren't as easy to reach before he takes office. Soon they will have government contact information after Janurary 20th when sworn in. It is important that all nations involved in a deal operate with integrity and in good faith. If not, at least every government should be aware of any abuses or tactics.

DrCaleb DrCaleb: Sounds like Trump is a big believer in the free market. /s Giving $550M of taxpayer funding is not free market. It might be quasi-communism, but it is worse, it's crony capitalism. His beef with Mexico is in regards to the abuses of NAFTA, his beef with Canada will be the full y subsidized business practices we use. Globalization is supposed to be about rewarding the best, brightest, most innovative, those who are first to market, those creating and reaping from R&D investment. It should not solely be about chasing the lowest wage or going to a country because they pay you gobs of money in exchange for employing their citizens. Ontario will take a deep hit when Trump is in power, Canada more broadly will risk the House of Cards crumbling. This was always going to happen in Canada where capitalism isn't the objective, but rather self serving agencies, friends, cronies and family members profiting off the next generation who have to repay the debt. It's been in the making for 30 years and maybe now Canada will be forced to change.

"Fully Subsidized Business". You are so adorable! {pinches cheek} Our quarterly reports at the company I work for are full of examples where the government is always propping us up with the grants and loans and tax breaks.

Well Ford just canceled a new plant in Mexico in favour of something more in Michigan.
So something is up.

DrCaleb DrCaleb: Sounds like Trump is a big believer in the free market. /s He is. But free trade also needs to be fair trade that doesn't cost American working people their jobs. Keep in mind that with this statement he's making friends in the unions and pulling those people in the Republican column for the first time ever.

I'm not a big fan of NAFTA, but it is still the law right now. Trump may be trying to attract the Unions, but by threatening penalties for actions that are perfectly legal, it send the wrong message. If Trump is going after NAFTA, just say so. GM will get the hint, and if it's in their best interests they will halt production in Mexico. That's the 'free market'. This is just another instance, of what I'm sure are a long line to come, of reasons why I don't think Trump has the right personality to be POTUS. Lucky though, I'm not the decider.

Ontario, which is already awash in debt and little creative, private, free market industry, is going to see their revenue shrink. With the cost of doing business going higher with cap and trade, a housing bubble in Toronto and a much deeper decrease in U.S and European investment, it's going to be very tough times indeed. At some point provincial bonds could become junk status, especially if American corporations pull out of Canada for the warm confines of America.
Canada is in the worst spot in decades, a great deal of this due to arrogance of government for such a long time. Supported by a security apparatus and their friends who operate for their own benefit, while Canada suffers. Some of us have paid a steep price already. Alas, appears misery loves company, because its going to get far worse.
Good luck!

Trump might not be to your liking because he's not interested in playing the usual games with anyone. Instead he says he will put America first and so far he seems to be consistent with that promise. You may not recall that I preferred Ted Cruz in the primaries but now I'm pretty happy that we elected a street fighter. Maybe you folks need to do the same because Trudeau is going to get his ass handed to him by Donald Trump.

There is no politician with the courage to confront the interferences and abuse of the free market, especially if the nation being abused is America. Noone from the left or the right who believes in Liberty, small government and Canadian patriotism for anything but hockey. Americans believe in liberty, Natural freedoms, due process and Rule of Law. Not the Canadian thing it is clear. I have heard some positive signs from a handful of politicians, but they come with so many warts and servitude to the RCMP and their surrogates, that they lack credibility. Sadly, except for a few leaders in our history, it's been the Canadian way since British-Canada allowed British ships with kidnapped American sailors to dock in Halifax and other Canadian ports. They called it "impressment" in the 18th century. Today in Canada they call these abuses of Liberty and Rights, "constitutional monarchy"

Once again Trump's use of Twitter shows how irrelevant the lamestream media is.

No, he's not to my liking because I think the Office of the President of the United States deserves a certain respect and therefore requires a certain kind of person occupying it. I see President Trump not as that kind of person. He lacks skills that the person occupying the office needs. Diplomacy, tact, thinking before tweeting kind of skills. Like last week or so when he wiped billions off the value of companies like Lockheed, because of poorly worded tweets. And this threat to GM is just another example. His whole treatment of Putin is another. He's basically rubber stamping Putin walking into Ukraine and taking 1/3 of the country over. BartSimpson BartSimpson: You may not recall that I preferred Ted Cruz in the primaries but now I'm pretty happy that we elected a street fighter. Maybe you folks need to do the same because Trudeau is going to get his ass handed to him by Donald Trump. I did. I also recall the reason for you joining CKA was Canadians interfering in the US elections at the time. Which is the reason I didn't post even once in that epic US election thread. Not my call, I don't get to vote on it. But the call is made, and the now consequences affect me. I'm not that fond of Trudeau, but I have to say I like his first year a lot more than I liked Harpers'. And that last sentence is exactly my point. It's not an ass kicking contest, it's about the future of our countries. It's about the economy and security and people's lives and futures. I expect leaders to act like it, not like it's a schoolyard playground.

Once again the fools who support Trump are fooled. Chevy Cruze is made in Lordstown, Ohio. The President-elect thinks Ohio is in Mexico? The plant in Mexico is for world production, only a few models from there enter the USA.
Shockedcanadian must be really missing those Acadians, Beaumonts, and Monarchs....
