The US only has 274 deployable battle force ships? ROTFL

One can only dream because, even a 10th of that number would be a vast improvement in our perational capabilities. Although, this seems to be and odd decision based on the fact that the US already dwarfs any other navies by tonnage in the world. in tonnage. So maybe this is just another giant make work program like the Civilian Conservation Corps or The Tennessee Valley Authority were during the 30's.

Just borrow the 5 bil from China. I'm sure they will be glad to give it. "Ships to threaten us. Approved."

Aren't navy ships vulnerable after the Exocet?

Not really. After the Sheffield there was a concerted effort by all navies to build up the defense capabilities of warships against airborne threats. Things like multi target radars, a myriad of new CIWS, and passive deterents pretty much balanced it out.

But that's not to say ships have become invulnerable. Shoot enough missiles at them and one's going to eventually get through and take it out. But the survivability of warships is alot better than it was in the 80's especially since they stopped constructing the superstructures out of aluminium.

The electronic components come from China via a Chinese Trojan Horse. 8O

Yup, they would be very good to take down those Chinese islands they have been building.

If you read this proposal carefully you'll see that the replacement schedule is over 30 years. We're not going to have a 355 ship fleet ever. It just looks like this schedule prevents any more loss to the fleet and maybe might add some hulls if the lifecycles of older ships are extended.

The first clue to this is that the cost is just $5bn. That's about the price of two bargain model destroyers these days.

So over 8 years of Trump we'd maintain or maybe add sixteen more hulls? Big deal.

What's that expression? If you owe a million dollars to the bank, that's their problem, If you owe them 5 billion that's the bank's problem.

I think it was Pocklington's but back then it was $100,000 is your problem, $1,000,000 is the banks problem.
Jeez, long time ago. When winning 6/49 was more than a down payment on a house in Vancouver...
