Not a fair comparison. You know that as well as I. We do not live in the US.

The travel insurance industry has had numerous complaints about BS loop holes. No fair standards. And this has been ongoing for years. Where is the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada??
Do you know what is in your med file. You get sent for a test, results are nil concern, your Dr tells you. The Insurance company denies based upon the test.

What does that have to do with it. It shows the pitfalls of private insurance in both cases. It's not just a comparison, but an identical situation.

Banks put themselves first in any transaction they do. Why would people think that the banks would act any differently with insurance (any type)? Mortgage insurance is the biggest fraud in the financial world and guess who came up with that little bugger?

All insurance is gambling. You're gambling that you will get sick, have an accident, etc. And the companies are gambling you won't. They are very good at gambling and don't like to lose.

Again, this shows the problem with private insurance for medical issues. When was the last (or first) time you had to fill about a questionnaire about past conditions to determine if you would be covered with MSP? Michael Moore wasn't lying in Sicko when he showed the extent to which insurance companies will go to avoid having to pay for a claim. They're in the business of making money, not paying out claims.

One- Plans are all different
2- Short term travel insurance covers a variety of things, or what can be added aside from medical.
Now in the US Plans are mandatory are they not?

It looks like as of this year, denying coverage based on pre existing conditions will be outlawed in the US. Until this year, insurance companies down there were playing the same game as ours are up here. They can still deny coverage based on fraud. Not sure what that means. How can a patient commit fraud?

In the US all plans are different too, not sure what your point is? Not sure what having mandatory coverage has to do with what's being discussed either.

Private insurance is about making money. Therefore the insurers will use every legal trick they can to avoid paying claims. The situation is much more dire in the US, because there is no govt program that will cover you no matter what. Even these folk's expenses out of country will have been covered by MSP. Just that MSP rates are lower than is often the case in other countries. I had to seek medical help in New Zealand, nothing major. I had travel insurance but never used it, since MSP reimbursed me for pretty well the entire amount, and the travel insurance would only pay the portion that MSP would not. Travel in a country with a socialized medical system, and it seems you don't have to worry so much about travel insurance.
