They need to get one NHL team before they can ask for a second team!

^ ROTFL :(

As a Torontonian, I'm happy enough with the Leafs. I don't think it's necessary, or should even be a priority for the city....we don't need more wasted resources, more traffic, etc.

Either way, the NHL would never let it happen since it would impact both the Toronto and Buffalo/NY markets, so I don't know what this councillor is trying to do. :?

Ahhh for FFS Toronto, you aren't in the same league as the Big Apple(well maybe, a Big Road Apple) to qualify for a second team.

Wouldn't giving Hamilton a team accomplish the same thing?

As ridiculous as they usually are it'd still be kind of unfair for Bettman and the league to get blamed when it'll be MLSE the ones 100% responsible for blocking another team from ever locating to southern Ontario. The Leafs will never allow a competitor to set up shop on their turf. Any local politician saying otherwise is just daydreaming.

Whacha talking about there's already a group agitating for a franchise in Markham (just far enough to be outside of Buffalo's ability to claim territory compensation)
now a Toronto city committee has also expressed interest this time looking at using the area around Woodbine Racetrack & Slots. Your not looking at two teams in the GTA but THREE and possibly a fourth if Hamilton was ever looked on fondly. You'll have the Loafs for the corporate segment, Markham for Eastern GTA, Wodbine for the West and the orphan in Hamilton. Someone is dreaming in technicolor, calling Alice.

You're vastly underestimating the stroke that Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment has in the NHL offices and the very strong connections it has with the other teams. If MLSE demands upwards of a $250 million compensation fee from anyone wanting to locate in southern Ontario the odds are in their favour that the NHL will support them on it, and that'll effectively kill anyone's ability to set up a new team within the boundaries of the traditional Maple Leaf market. Just how many billionaires do you presume are out there anyway who are willing to cough up that kind of money just to bring another team to the Toronto area? Jim Balsillie was the only one who tried and he's now a on permanent shit list, and effectively a lifetime ban from ever being an owner, with the NHL and all the other teams because of the way he bucked the accepted system. It's an ultimate old boys network in the NHL, and if the Leafs put the kibosh on any location onto their turf the other teams are almost automatically going to support them 100%.

If anyone's dreaming it's you, and same with anyone else who thnks that moving a professional sports team is as easy as buying a used car. And check your grammar and paragraphing before you post 'cause it stinks.

Ah! An English & grammar lesson, why not add syntax just to cover all bases. Sorry if you viewed the post as seroius and not surrealist. Figured "ask Alice" would hint at its tongue in cheek intent. :P
