A bit of a harsh reaction I think. The ride doesn't get any easier for this guy.

I don't like it. That vet should be ashamed of himself. All he's done is make a rembrance day ceremony about himself.

$1: Ford gave a short speech honouring the military and there was a quiet smattering of boos and cries of "shame" in the crowd as he walked up to the podium, though there was also light applause. There was only two people yelling 'shame' at the same time, as they were standing nearby to where I was standing. There was more than a 'light applause' and I heard several 'Way to go Ford!' cries as well. I was especially happy to see the absence of protestors this year. Last year, there were a small group of people protesting Canada's involvement in Afghanistan. No such noise this year. Everyone behaved, and so they should. All in all, it was as it should be. The weather was a little soggy, but is a small price to pay compared to what the vets went through in the wars. It's the least anyone could do to pay respects. The flyby was a treat too, as usual. -J.

I imagine most people have an issue with Ford these days, but the 11th of November isn't the time for this shit. Give it a rest for one damn day.

shockedcanadian shockedcanadian: A bit of a harsh reaction I think. The ride doesn't get any easier for this guy. ... an honest and from-the-heart reaction, more like. Most of those old Vets don't take much crap. There is an easy answer for "this guy": Resign the mayoralty and get your ass out of town, ya bum.

Frankly, if a vet wants to make a political statement on Remembrance Day about the mayor, he'd better shut his hole to whining about when a protester shows up to make a political statement of his own agenda.

And there's the problem. Petty people with agenda's using days like Remembrance Day for their own ends instead of doing the right thing and quietly honouring the War Dead. They've got 364 other days in the year to promote their own agenda's so WTF do they have to ruin the one day that's set aside for people who made the ultimate sacrifice and that goes for the Vet's to.

Veteran refuses to shake Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's hand, calls him 'druggie'

If a veteran at a Remembrance Day ceremony wants to whine through his hole about a lowlife lizard like Ford, I am 100% behind him.

Sorry, vets don't get special status to hijack Remembrance Day for petty personal agendas. I'll keep that response in mind the next time a vet shows up with a white poppy brigade or a No Blood for Oil campaign by the cenotaph on 11 Nov. Guy did a dick thing. Shake the man's hand and suck it up or don't but shut up about it. It's about remembering the fallen, not grandstanding on your soapbox.

No, sorry. Politicians like Ford appear at public ceremonies like this one to stump, to glad-hand, to photo-op and to generally use the participants by associating with them If they don't want to be used as props and back-drops by pricks like Ford and tell him to piss off, good on them. Ford is the one on the soap box.

Ford is the one on the soap box. And if a politician like Ford had chosen to avoid the ceremony he'd begetting shit about that too. He's still the mayor, and a such, he represented the city in an entirely appropriate way. He was doing what he's supposed to do. The man who made a show of not shaking his hand could've simply walked away when he sa Ford coming if he was really so concerned about not shaking hands with a druggie.

Ford is the one on the soap box. Ford did was what was expected of a politician representing his constituency. The vet did not so what was expected of him. He opted to be a douche.
