$1:
In Toronto, fans will be able to park their cars in a licensed area, buy beer, and bring their own propane or charcoal barbecues to cook food and hang out before kickoff.

"It's part of football culture and it will become part of Argos culture," Copeland said during a news conference.

Fans will not be allowed to bring their own alcohol, but cans of cold beer will be sold for $4 each. Other beverages, such as coolers and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

Oh, I WILL bring my own alcohol. Catch me if you can!

Personally, I think it's retarded to invite a bunch of cars in, promote (indirectly) the over consumption of booze and then have people drive those same cars home after the game.

Well that's a sporting event for you. At least BMO has GO and TTC stations (I'll be taking the GO and meeting friends at the tailgate)

While alcohol is sold at sporting events, it's not exactly comparable.

You're inviting people in to bring their cars to drink and eat. The whole tailgating experience is beer, burgers/dogs & cars. Bad combo in my opinion.

We have laws to deal with those who can't/won't control themselves. Why punish everyone for the actions of the few.

Wow Canadians are allowed to be adults? Who would have thought it?

I'm sure Kathleen Wynne or John Tory will be looking to tax people somehow for this pleasure...

Yeah but my point is, regardless of tailgating, people are encouraged to buy booze and food. I think most fans probably come by car

I remember as a kid, 30+ years ago, my family and I went to Greenwood Park (I think that was the name, it's so long now) for Canada Day. There were live bands and tonnes of people enjoying the hot sun and long weekend. I specifically recall people with their blankets and picnic baskets and plenty of kids with their families.

On many of these blankets were cases of beer, in the open, most in coolers. There was also uniformed police there watching the proceedings, literally walking the camp grounds and nodding their heads at people. There was not one problem that I can recall and we were there until the lights came on, didn't leave until 10 or 11 pm. The only concern from the police Make sure you put the beer in a cup when you walked around and drank so you didn't make them look stupid and give them a reason to ruin your fun.

So those may be days that are long gone. There were probably a few who drank and drive and it was a far more lax regulation of such issues. Notwithstanding, we didn't have this over reaching, hyper-sensitive Nanny state that we have today simply because a few people are afraid of the boogie man and expect everyone to be idiots.

If you want people to pay for overpriced beer and tickets, you better allow them to make it an event.

In the more popular Toronto city parks, especially Trinity Bellwoods you'll find groups of young people drinking openly. Cops a blind eye so long as everyone agrees to behave themselves and not be too conspicuous about it. You don't have to hide your drink under your shirt or anything but youll probably hear from them if you're standing on a picnic table chugging wine straight from the bottle.

Im TB, there's even an elderly Chinese couple that circulates through the park all day with a garbage bag to collect alcohol bottles and cans from park-goers, which they obviously take back for a refund.

Let's be real here.

For the majority, tailgating is an opportunity to get shit-faced pre-game. I've been to NFL games in Buffalo and Tampa and it's a big "let's get wasted" party.

People are going to drink at the game as well, but the entire purpose of a football game isn't to get wasted and eat unlike the tailgating.
