It's cheaper to run business in Canada than the US, and the US is looking to eliminate this 'unpatriotic' loophole. Sucks when Capitalism isn't in their favour, eh?

Given that BK is majority-owned by a Brazillian company I'm kind of hopeful that Timmie's will become invigorated by their new owners and perhaps they'll get back to fresh baking their products as opposed to 'fresh thawing' them. I'm also hopeful that the atrocious coffee will improve given that the Brazillian firm is also a premium coffee producer.

Given that BK is majority-owned by a Brazillian company I'm kind of hopeful that Timmie's will become invigorated by their new owners and perhaps they'll get back to fresh baking their products as opposed to 'fresh thawing' them. That's way too much to hope for, especially because the sole reason for moving here would to be to operate for less cost.

I guess this version of the story didn't mention that the reason is that Canada's corporate taxes are lower. Come On guys, we all know operating costs are higher in Canada. Since only the head office would be moved, the increase in operating costs would be minimal. I'm sure otherwise, they will continue to run the operations in a way they deem will bring the most profit. Ie schlork and dishwater coffee.

I think Target is okay, but nothing to rave about, but then that was my opinion after visiting them south of the border too. I certainly haven't seen the empty shelves most people complain about - just stores empty of customers.

I think Target's biggest problem isn't prices - I remember the disappointment that Wal-Mart prices didn't match those south of the border when they came in 1993 - the problem is that Target doesn't have much in the way of house brands, so they can't offer stuff that isn't already available elsewhere.

Canadian perception is far from reality. It just plays into the left wing mantra of "Harper selling off Canada".


When it comes to foreign mergers, Canadians buy way more companies than they sell.
