You've probably heard of firefighters being arrested for arson. It happens more than you might imagine. The vast majority of those arrests are among the ranks of volunteers.

Yes but to be clear, a volunteer firefighter gets paid for the calls he or she responds to.

The "volunteer" part is whether or not they respond.

If the call comes in about a vehicle accident, multiple fatalities, etc a volunteer can decide that they don't want to see that. A pro has to respond.

Unlike search and rescue, that is entirely volunteer. As in, no pay ever.
