A better question.. if everything is free, why lock the door?

Probably to keep homeless people and drug users from squatting and reckless teenage vandals from trashing the place. Plus, I imagine there must be some things of value in there that aren't part of the merchandise, like the store's own office equipment.

What is IN the store might be free, but the store itself is not. It is not some shelter.
