I've always thought that we should distance ourselves from our southern neighbours, at least economically and now more than ever.

I've said that you people are always one Presidential election from having your happy little Utopia turned upside down.

And here we are.

We had a Presidential election that posed no threat to Canada yet your government went out of its way to insult, demean, and taunt candidate Trump and then President Trump.

And you really think even as much as closing the border with the USA will hurt the man's popularity here? If anything it'll make him more popular that ever. This guy PROSPERS in the midst of adversity.

Now you're faced with Canada being virtually shut out of the US market, your pot smokers can't travel here or do business here, and your irritating trade rep is mostly ignored in trade talks.

And your national defense is still a joke.

Yet some of you have the temerity to call the USA 'weak'.

Get with the program, Canada. Send a real man to the trade talks...like General Hillier who will have the respect and attention of Mike Pompeo. And then knock off this idiotic horsecrap of spending millions on plans for projects you're just going to cancel.

Build an actual military that your country can be proud of and that will make the US take you seriously and you'll have a much stronger position on trade.

Yup. The time has come to move toward Europe. They want and need our resources and if the USA is intent on being a bunch of twats I say "fantastic". Now we have an excuse to stop being infected by their BS politics, gun/media culture and destruction of the middle class.

What I really don't get is, even if Trump "thinks" we have no choice but to kowtow to their insane demands or they'll "destroy us" economically, he must know that we can never ever give in. Otherwise we tell the world we are open to be raped financially. We're infinitely better off eating whatever economic losses come from standing our ground, then rebuilding with more stable countries that don't have crazies in charge. Not that it will ever happen anyway. Trump loses congress and the senate if he screws over Canada. And once the next election happens anyway, congress is going to want a return to NAFTA. Time for a lame duck.
