I wonder if he would have gone further if he said he was a US MArine Captain?

For someone with previous service in Canada trying to re-enlist, they have to verify their forme service and the process still takes weeks.

I think the American military is getting desperate

If you read the whole article you'll see that the guy was never actually in the Army. He was found out before he ever got out of induction.

"Since March, Johnston has been stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama, the primary training base for Army aviation. "

Sorry Bart but he actually did enlist

Anyone can enlist, but induction is a process that this fellow did not complete. That means his FBI check had not caught up with him and etc. and he would not have had any serious security clearances pending the completion of those checks.

I have no idea why this assclown would do such a thing, enlisting with a fake background that would have to be verified. He was basically asking to get caught and now he is going to be looking at some serious time in Federal stir.

No. He'd really attract attention as an officer changing services. A whole pile of people would want to see his jacket and see his fitness reports and figure out why someone who rose to Captain would want to switch to another service.

You can go from the Marines to the Navy without too much scrutiny simply because the Marine Corps is under the Navy Department...but it still attracts attention. But going from the Corps to the Army as an officer...people would wonder if you were an a**hole trying to escape a bad history.
