I seriously doubt the kid was shot for singing too loud in church. If there's a gang war going on and he got himself shot then it's very likely this pillar of the community was also a gang member who has improved Toronto with his passing.

Not to upset you or to be argumentative, but I've seen plenty of very committed gang members who are as young as 12. A 15 year old kid who is a gang member is a walking tragedy and this kind of thing, while not inevitable, is not remarkable, either.

Another gang banger who learned too late how that life ends. Oh well. Maybe he can serve as a warning to others.

not necessarily a gang member...some of these gangs require a member to kill someone before full membership is granted.....this kid may have been that other kids ticket to a full membership

I don't know how Toronto gangs roll but around here they don't get their bones by just doing a random killing. The kid would have to have been targeted for a reason. As bad as the gangs are, I will say that they have less tolerance for senseless killings than does the average person. A gang member who just randomly kills innocent people is extremely likely to be killed by his own gang when they decide that he is a liability or when they decide such a thing is reprehensible.

Bear in mind that the Mexican drug lords have engendered popular support by maintaining peace and order in their towns and by protecting the people from the police (this is Mexico I'm talking about here).

Keele and Eglinton is not a bad area but its not a great area either. i used to ride ride my bike around there as a kid on my way to see my sister but now i would not recommend any child do the same.

Just a few blocks west an everything changes. The entire atmosphere is different.

My sister lives on Lonborough Ave. (one block north of Eglinton) and teaches at York Memorial. When she first moved there 15 years ago or so, it was all Italian and a pretty quiet place. Commisso and Rocco's bakery on Castlefield used to get blown up whenever the Mafia was fighting it out, but that was about the only crime in the area. Now it's all Jamaican and the crime rate has soared. It's a pretty rough neighbourhood now.

I live outside Toronto now, but I go to the area often to see family, doctors, dentists and so on and it gets a little rougher looking each time. My dad worked this area for the police for 30 years and he feels the same.

Did you mean going east is different? Like Forest Hill area? It's actually crazy to see the difference from Eglinton and the Allen Express. The west of that line feels a little bit harder, and the east is pretty upscale.
