A 16-year-old minor hockey player in Edmonton has died after being hit in the throat by a puck.

Kyle Fundytus died after blocking a shot during a Midget Double-A game Saturday afternoon at the Clareview Arena.

Honestly I always wondered why the players don't have a smaller version of what the goalie has.

Maybe they will now.

Hockey seems to have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to safety. It is not very likely that something like this will happen but when it does it can be devastating.

Sad to see a life lost or crippled in a sport that is supposed to be fun.
