I noted CTV and CBC presenters had a tone of almost 'glee' when they announced the big prison break and I detect the same tone in kenmore's posts.
What is wrong with the media and people like kenmore? They would rather cheer a bunch of ruthless murdering thugs like the Taliban than support our guys fighting those thugs.
The problem is Eyebrock is that the taliban escapees aren't any worse then the so called troops we are training.
Already posted is the article in which we are telling our soldiers to ignore despicable acts done by those very trained troops, acts like raping young boys.
The taliban didn't just spring into existence amidst a peaceful agrarian society. As I posted to Scape the very people we helped overthrow the big bad soviets were the very people doing these despicable acts.
How much better are we when we knowingly support Karzais corrupt regime, knowingly ignore despicable acts like raping young boys, knowingly support the emergence of a narco state and knowingly ignore the fact that no peace will be possible without all sides coming to the table.
Pulling off this jail break under our noses no less can easily mean they had "help".
Aside from ridenhacks partisan BS over Karzais comments we now have the threat of expanding the war into a country that will certainly fight back en masse. (what the hell was he thinking?)
Its just a whole disgusting pile of kangaroo crap.
I'm aware that Karzai and his boys are not much better than the taliban, but they are better.
People forget that outside of North America or other developed nations, there are a lot of socially backward nations. Think of how harsh and brutal the UK was in the 14-15th centuries. Many countries in Africa and the Middle East are barely out of their own medieval periods.
It will take generations in these backward countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan to embrace true social change.
Think of the periods in the West when religion dictated political policy. The Islamic world is still stuck there.
Until they go through their own renaissance and ‘age of reason’ they will act like third world medieval men and women, with all the brutality and lack of reasoning that we in the West exhibited in the Middle Ages.
My original point is that Craig Oliver and his ilk might try and show a bit less glee when the Taliban have a success, and try and be a bit more positive about the good things the Canadian Forces are achieving in a stone-age society that has been racked by decades of tribal in-fighting.
