Holy f*ck. My family and I used to catch a Transasia flight between Kinmen(where the plane was headed) and Taipei every week or two for almost two years. This was out of Taipei's municipal Songshan airport which is in the north end of the city. Didn't think the river was deep enough there to submerge a plane. It was an hour flight and it cost about $100(residents get/got subsidized flights).

Earlier in the video he was coming in steep but still wings level, then the left wing dropped. At that point with no wing lift it plunged. He called Mayday shortly after take off so I'm thinking it must have lost power and he tried to get it someplace to land like the river. Wing stalled about 200 yards from making the river.

he was clearly in a wing level stall (nose up) early in the video (from what cause who knows) then my guess is he tried avoiding the bridge but when your stalled any control input from the wings (aileron) can result in a sudden wing drop in either direction.

That is exactly what happened, they will have to determine what caused the loss of power as it appears his props were simply feathered.
