not only that, but the RCMP admitted to using the 'deleted' LGR to find those who had them originally.

yeah don't worry, registration will never lead to confiscation.

You mean they LIED about deleting the LGR when they were told to do it by the elected officials who supposedly run the country?

It can't be!

We all know that police would never break the law to push their own agenda!

$1:
The government will not be offering compensation and will be demanding that the firearms, which cost between $3,000 - $4,000 be surrendered. The government is suggesting that all affected firearms owners contact the distributers from which the firearms were purchased for reimbursement.

So not only are legally purchased rifles being seized, but they don't even have the decency to compensate their owners.

Very disappointed.

Are they? They're using the restricted registry, haven't seen anything about them using the LGR.

http://o.canada.com/news/national/decis ... un-owners/

$1:
RCMP briefing note sent to the public safety minister last year and obtained by Postmedia News stated that if the Swiss rifles were prohibited, “affected owners may seek compensation” and that “the value of the rifle is estimated at approximately $4,000.”

The document stated that there were 301 restricted Swiss Arms rifles registered in Canada but that it was “impossible” to know how many non-restricted rifles there were given the end of the long-gun registry.

Don't worry it's just about common sense restrictions, not confiscation.

It shouldn't be up to the jokers in the RCMP to make and update any part of a legally enforceable mandate.

I think that just like how someone must prove a need for an ATC, the RCMP (or even better the proper legislative body) must prove a need to change the classification. And just to be fair 'because it might hurt someone, or it's easy to do something with it' isn't a justification.

I can't understand how an effective ban on a multi thousand dollar rifle is making anyone safer.

there are multiple variants of this rifle. One was already restricted, one was NOT. Hum, how do they know who has the non restricted ones? because ALL models were classed prohibited now.

Are they going to take away my little folding knife, too?

I suppose they want my Oerikon gun after that!

Pffft!

I'd be curious to see the originally link you posted. I've been following this and as far as I can tell the RCMP only just reclassified the Swiss Arms firearms to prohibited. I haven't read anything about any confiscations or illicit uses of the old LGR. In fact I believe the RCMP is suggesting that people try to get a refund from the place you purchased the firearm. This is really a disgusting display of the joke they call the firearms act. I'm glad to see the government jumped in quickly to evaluate this.

Good thing the numerous rifles I've given to friends in Canada were never registered, thus saving the RCMP all the bother of hunting them down and seizing them.
