Never mind the street racing charges, she should be charged with child endangerment and have social services look into this.

McPhail credited Ontario's stunt driving legislation for giving officers the power to stop vehicles they believe are travelling at a dangerous speed.
"This stunt driving legislation has made a significant impact on the number of fatalities on Ontario roads; there has been a significant reduction," said McPhail.
This McPhail is a fucking idiot and thinks we are too. Officers didn't have the "power" to stop a vehicle before this??? She was speeding........not racing.

desertdude desertdude: 157 ? and such a fuss ! We have a highway with a legal speed limit of 160 kph. The speed limit here was 100. The danger isn't the speed itself but what happens when people are passed at that speed, or don't expect somebody to be coming up behind them so fast. In Germany they have no speed limit, but people know how to deal with it and are expecting that some people might be going a lot faster. And they have spectacular accidents too - I saw one develop beside me and then in my rear view mirror, and 6 cars were involved in a flash.

With their unsecured kids in the back? Should they? I've driven in Ontario 40 years ago in my 240z. You have some nice back roads there in the north west there, that are actually banked to help you thru the corner rather than throw you out of it the way we do here. I passed a 'Cuda at 130 mph = 210 kph, and was so busy looking in my mirror to see if he was going to chase, that I didn't see the corner coming up ahead. I braked a bit, but then decided the only way was to go for it - accelerated thru the corner and the the car just sat down and did it. Averaged over 100 mph for the next 400 miles or so without seeing just about anybody. But, I was young, stupid, single, and hopefully would have killed only myself. I don't really recommend this sort of behavior, but at least make sure you only risk your own life.

Yes everyone goes 120 some 130 on the 401 and even the 417 as well but 157 is still well over that and shes likely driving with distractions, tell me she would NEVER peek back at her kids? Besides IMO they should change the limit to 120 or start ticketing everyone as speed increase creep has become a problem.
I drove for years on Germany doing 180, while getting passed A LOT, but I can tell you you need to have way way more concentration all the time at those speeds. I always arrived wiped out from those drives. Also you should know the roads in Germany, not all roads have not limits, are much higher quality than ours are pretty much anywhere.

I'd disagree that their roads are higher quality. The autobahns and the single digit highways are good, so are most double digit highways. But the majority of rural roads (can't recall the proper term for them but in Alberta it would be the 800/600 series) are flat out poor. They're narrow, no shoulders, view obstructed the list goes on. Then there's wet paving stone hell... Edit: Damn hijackers! Is there still a provision for reckless driving in Ontario or did the racing charge supercede it?

Those practically one way and if you go off the road you are part of a tree half dirt and paved things have speeds, and I doubt even the best drivers could take them at 180 lol As I understand there still is reckless driving on the books but they wanted something stiffer for high speed so created this as well. reckless can still be used for pretty much anything that makes you appear out of control and such, like the guy I saw the other day driving on cruise control (I can only suppose) with one foot out his window and the other on the dashboard while driving 120 down the highway.

I've driven in the UK, France and Italy and their road are no better than any of ours, so road quality isn't an issue. In France, just south of Paris I was cruising at just over 200km/h when a Jaguar passed me like I was standing still and I didn't panic or even flinch. I was quite impressed granny knitting in the passenger seat while grandpa was chewing up pavement though. The fact of the matter is that we've been lead to believe we're too stupid to drive fast, and revenue generation large fines are the only solution.

From the drivers I see around here, most of us are too stupid - don't look ahead to see what's coming up, driving with cell phones, coffee, etc etc. I've been rear ended when the light turned green but the car in front of me hadn't moved yet - the guy behind just saw the light and went for it. I've had a guy I was following up and alley stop, turn around, look me right in the eye, and then reversed into me at full speed. We just had a couple of doofuses racing where they came upon a slower moving car - the guy who lived from that was convicted of manslaughter. You may not be too stupid to drive fast, I like to think I'm not either, tho I've slowed down a lot as I got older. But thank God the laws take into consideration how many numb nuts there are out there.

The rural roads especially are paved goat paths, and take a lot of work to drive properly. imo, European drivers are better.. cars are better too.
