I have to say they did an excellant job on this IMO. Went to an advanced screening last night. Had my doubts about it, but it was very well done.

NO SPOILERS!!!! I'm going to see it tonight, Can't wait!!!

All the reviews i've glanced at have been positive. I try not to really read them, i don't want spoilers. But its still sitting at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, i'm sure it will drop much lower once more reviews are added, but its still really high, higher tha most opening movies at this stage.

Rottentomatoes seems to give out bad reviews to a lot sci-fi flicks so to see Star Trek sitting so high is pretty encouraging. It might fall a bit after the reviews are added like you mentioned but I guess that depends on what you're looking for. If you're going just to pick it a part that's one thing but I think most who are willing to accept it for what it is, an entertaining movie, will be pleased.

I'm going on the week end. I think probably going to be one ot the better films of the summer. :D

Come on people, we're talking about a Star Trek movie.
Of course it won't be a good movie and the critics will confirm this.

But being the Star Trek maniacs that we are, we will watch it, and LOVE it. XD

Coming from a Trekkie (not really..) family and seeing the previews, I'm very skeptical about this movie. The previews remind me of Transformers, which is up there among the worst movies I've ever seen. I'll definitely give it a chance though.

First Contact was my favourite Star Trek movie with The Undiscovered Country being a close second at the moment.

Undiscovered Country are you shitting me? That was god aweful! Now First Contact i'll grant (any movie that gives a nod to Roy Orbison can't be bad in my books) but c'mon what about Khan? That face Kirk made alone was killer!

Still metacritic is giving this a 85% as well and compare it as the best movie since Ironman. Now I have to see what the fuss is about!

Star Trek was great fun. Diehard Trekkies might not like the changes made, but they all worked great IMHO. The key thing about this movie is that it is geared towards everyone, just like Transformers was, not just to fans of the original show(s).

As for Undiscovered Country being a "close second", that's almost worth neg rep right there!

It's one of those things with trying to redo the classics.... they've "reinvented" Bond in the past few films, and in that case, I didn't appreciate it as much. It's not that they didn't follow the same old recipe for making the film, it's that they lost some of the essence of Bond when they turned him basically into a Jason Bourne clone. It was Bond's nonchalant attitude and suaveness that made him notable, and they kind of lost that part of his character.

Taking the boring action scenes and tedious dialogue out of Star Trek, on the other hand, isn't a bad thing, because those are less about the style of the series and more about the original series just being often boring and tedious.

The new Bond is actually closer to Ian Flemings Bond than the earlier film Bond.

Yes, but Bill Shatner was fun to watch. The man had all the acting ability of a rock!

I'm watching "How William Shatner changed the world" right now.
Funny that even in a documentary, Bill get the girl at the end.
