Bring it on ! The more the better. I find it strange how I can fly from YYC to PHX return cheaper on US Airways than Westjet 9 times out of 10.

Simple math. What is US Airways total passenger capacity at any one time compared to WestJet, and what's the profitability of their routes as opposed to WestJet's route profitability?
Then if you figure in fuel costs, what percentage of WestJet's fleet operates solely within Canada, where fuel costs tend to be higher?
Then there's crap like baggage charges. I understand needing to charge when an individual has multiple suitcases, but now some are even charging for one. I mean c'mon, who the hell flies cross-continent or across the ocean with no friggin' luggage at all? And if someone is, I don't wanna be on that flight!

When you consistently over price your competitor on a prime route it proves there is room to move. The Number 1 destination flying out of PHX beyond the US border is YYC.
AC starts flying in Dec. This has nothing to do with the current US Airways merger with American either as this has been the norm for the last 5 years.

Just wait till the Ontario government implements their new Aviation fuel tax introduced in the bill that just passed and triggered the election. Will drive even more passengers south to fly and will be cheaper for US based carries to access cheaper fuel for their routes.

Perhaps the answer is for Canada to normalize taxes on Canadian carriers with the US taxes on American carriers.

I know. It's a typical bureacracy that blames everyone else for the problems it causes.

Canadian taxes are too high and Canadian airlines are at a disadvantage because of them.

Must be America's fault.

It can be done. I flew to Europe in 2005 without checking a bag - all I had was two backpacks (that zipped together) that qualified as carry-ons.

you like overpaying for flights?

If the service sucks they'll go under. Not a big worry either way.
