I'm just surprised they haven't started doing this sooner.

I'm curious where they got that price range though, my buddy did both his eyes 18 months ago here in Edmonton for about $1200 total.

I don't mean to be rude but aren't there minimum vision standards (as there are physical ones) that must be met to be in a given trade?

They tried do a trial with spec ops guys 3 years ago, and then found out that they couldnt identify them because of their job, so they had to start the trial all over again....gotta love how we do things the hard way some times

Yes - and once you've got glasses, they generally employ you in trade without restrictions.

Yes you are right but there are several vision catagories V1 to V5, with V1 being no corrective lenses required all the way to damn near blind. In my job the worst you can be is a V4 and if you fall to a V5 you will face a career review board, in my case I would probably be released because I cant see the computer screen to do my job as it is, let alone if my vision got worse.

For most jobs in the combat arms, they wont even look at you if you are worse than a V2. If your vision gradually worsens over time but is still acceptable they will keep you because of the cost of training.

Which is why in some cases it is cheaper to correct vision than train a bunch of new people

V3 for the infantry. This is great news! Nothing worse than patroling around in -30 and your glasses start to fog up. Or wearing the lovely inserts in the blastic glasses, and lets not forget the gas mask insert too....

Just a thought I had, see how this is extremely benefitial to people whos vision deteriorates over time. It means that the CF doesn't have to train new people. But will this program include those applying to a trade and turn out they dont have the vision for it?

For example Bloggins goes into the CFRC and passes all the tests for infantry except vision. Will the CF then accept him as infantry then zap his eyes for him? Seems like a real big investment for someone we just got.
