$1:
A former victim of child sex abuse has ended her life under Dutch euthanasia laws because she could not live with her mental suffering.

The woman, in her twenties, was given a lethal injection after doctors and psychiatrists decided that her post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions were incurable.

The victim got a lethal injection but it would be WRONG to do the same thing to her attacker.

Maybe Holland will be better off under Islamic rule.

$1:
The papers said that the woman, who was killed last year, had post-traumatic stress disorder that was resistant to treatment. Her condition included severe anorexia, chronic depression and suicidal mood swings, tendencies to self-harm, hallucinations, obsessions and compulsions.

She also had physical difficulties and was almost entirely bedridden. Her psychiatrist said 'there was no prospect or hope for her. The patient experienced her suffering as unbearable'.

So it's better that she commit suicide on here own, maybe botch it, wind up with brain damage and be even more impaired? Took two years and intensive therapy for them to allow it, not exactly on a whim.

$1:
In Britain yesterday her case was condemned as 'horrendous' by Labour MP Robert Flello.

He said: 'It almost sends the message that if you are the victim of abuse, and as a result you get a mental illness, you are punished by being killed, that the punishment for the crime of being a victim is death.
What a maroon. Same sort of limited reasoning ability as Bart.

So killing the victim instead of treating her is 'reason'?

I only hope you get the same reasonable treatment and soon.

What an awful story.

I guess I thought of assisted suicide as an option for those suffering terminal physical illness/condition. I didn't consider mental anguish to a level such as this that would lead one to choose euthanasia. I had understood that a person suffering from severe depression would not be deemed fully capable of making that choice if they are not of sound mind.

In a way, it makes being a victim of sexual abuse a victim twice. :(

It also opens the door for repressive governments to simply say they're being 'nice' to a dissident by claiming they're mentally ill (they must be or they'd love their government, right?) and then being merciful and putting them down.

That's a door that should not be opened.

No it does not.

The Netherlands is not the USA.

Don't be stupid. You're acting as if her life was taken against her will. She wanted to die. She went through a two-year application process so she could die with dignity and safely, not suffer from a botched job in an alley or splattering on a sidewalk traumatizing bystanders.

People can suffer from depression and still be of sound mind. The two aren't necessarily related. Depression is an emotional state not a cognitive state.

Exactly. Thank you.
How come stage 4 cancer patients are perfectly fine making that same decision (we're talking 'hopeless cases...'), but an anorexia patient who cannot be cured, is a 'government guinee pig'?
Anorexia doesnt kill or something? She ended her suffering before she completely wasted away.
However sad the story, good for her. I hope she finds peace.
