My questions are; why does 95 year old grandma have a daughter that looks 40, and who leaves this 95 year old blind lady alone for 2 weeks at Christmas???

That story is horrifying.

Whoever made the decision to lock that poor old lady in that bug-infested room to be a "blood buffet" should be locked in it themselves - forever.

And the daughter...

She doesn't get to pretend to give a fuck if her 95 year old mother is alone on the other side of the country during Christmas.

And it happened in Chilliwack. My God! We should go down there with pitchforks and tar and feathers.

Good on the grunt workers there for blowing the whistle though. They're this week's heroes.

maybe someday you'll finally get around to admitting that there was precious little of anything to admire in the former soviet states. just as much insincere and shallow flag-waving at public events as you'd find from the tool-bags that go to MAGA rallies. at this stage you're kind of in the same sort of denial the right-wing loons around here engage in, when they say idiotic things like a halfway-decent Scandinavian welfare state is identical to Maduro's nascent murder-realm in Venezuela. the debate isn't advanced forward in any worthwhile manner when denialist tactics from the extremes dominate the discussion. "social welfare isn't the same thing as hardcore communism" is something that both segments of goofs need to write on the blackboard about five thousand times until the concept finally sinks in.

By "ceausescu'd", do you mean who should be warehoused in appalling conditions, or hung by the neck in the village square as an example to others?

Because the former happens all the time. Usually with the severely disabled or comatose patients. They get stool hardeners one day, so they are constipated, then laxatives the next and they get to sit for a few hours on the toilet while the overworked and underpaid TFW "nurses" attend other people with a severe case of the poops.

This lady might just be the latest example, but she is far from unique. I'm more for the latter definition of Ceausescu'd, in that case.

The advantage of our system over the system operating under the ideology preferred by PD (think China to North Korea) is you can complain about outrages such as the one described in the OP without having to worry about getting the 3 o'clock visit from the secret police.

There will always be those who take advantage of any system but in ours if you see a story inviting justified outrage such as the one in the OP you can expect something be done.

There was a time when one considered the responsibility of family a priority. It was a better time. Family will offer care for each other in a way governments won't so the idea a 94 year old family member should be close enough to a family member that they can watch over her situation was taken for granted.

At one time, not just at Christmas but especially at Christmas administrators of an old folks home would not dare lock a 94 year old in a bed-bug infested room to be a "blood buffet." They'd have to worry about a son or a daughter walking in and after being sufficiently horrified complaining to authorities.

In the system PD would like us living under those authorities would be more likely to send an "official" or "officials" to visit the son or daughter if they dared complain.
