Yeah, gets more complicated since it was a woman - any man stepping in is all of a sudden the bad guy. Those big women, you're not allowed to fight them like a man, but they can sure fight like one themselves.

We had a case here in BC. Man intervened in a man beating a woman. The attacker knocked out the intervener, who hit his head on a curb and was badly hurt. the woman walked away and later said she hadn't asked for his help. I think the attacker got off because she wouldn't testify.

Still, in this case, with that many people around, they should have been able to just hold the attacker.
