Didn't they try to put a cap on this before and FAILED!!

Now they want to cut the top off, let more oil into the Gulf of Mexico and try the same shit again.

Is it just me, or is BP so greedy and trying to recover the spilt oil it is just making the problem worse..

They're in the process of drilling two relief wells, which if successful would make this well dead. Unfortunately those wells won't be finished til August.

I think until then, they don't have a clue of what to do - never thought it out before drilling. So they're just trying anything. I mean when they appeal to the general public for ideas you know they're in trouble.

And all for want of a $500,000 safety feature, which Norway requires for drilling in their waters.

There's nothing wrong with drilling, as long as it's done properly.

You really have to stop going on about this half a million dollar safety feature. At the end of the day the BOP didn't fire and even after trying again and again to make it fire they couldn't get it to close. That little safety feature your talking about wouldn't have made a difference.

BP's annular valve did break apart, it's considered a safety feature.

Even when bits of the valve (rubber) came up the suits from HQ ignored it and gave orders to keep on drilling.

Shortly after..... ka-BOOM !!!!

Big difference between 75 000 barrels of oil a day being expelled out into the gulf of Mexico and a "theory" about changing weather and it's effect on our environment for the next hundred years.

Apples and oranges to me. Hec, scientists can't even accurately predict the weather for the next few days.

Respectfully, I don't agree with this. There's always the risk of an incident. You can't completely eliminate risk. So, that means the more you drill, the more likely an incident, statistically, becomes. Given that you will eventually have an accident, it makes sense to (a) have a contingency plan in place to deal with it, or (b) accept the spill as a cost of doing business. By not having a contingency plan in place to contain the spill (indeed that would be technically impossible for this volume of oil) you default to (b).

Hopefully in the future, they'll require the relief well and we can start moving forward with more resilient energy policies including alternative energies.
