$1: Hoffman has also been the target of similar attacks by political commentator Ezra Levant and others using anonymous accounts on Twitter.
Keeping it classy Ezra! You just bother the woman about her weight if it makes you feel like a bigger man!

No, I think we are becoming much more aware of the issues. It's socially unacceptable now to judge someone on the things about themselves that they cannot change. Although, I think that can of coke thing was pretty much a non-issue.

I don't agree this is a case of sexism. It's a case of a guy putting his foot in his mouth saying what most people are thinking.
In the case of the Minister, perhaps it wasn't the best choice to appoint an obese woman to the Minister of Health nor would it have been a good choice to make Alfonso Gagliano Ethics Commissioner.

Although, I think that can of coke thing was pretty much a non-issue. She's fat, and now Minister of Health. Fat she can change. I seem to recall lots of jokes around Rob Ford, especially when he went on his much publicized weight loss. Oh, because it's Ford, that was ok and we can forget about it now. It's the usual bullshit two faced hypocrite double standard.

Or to appoint John Snobelen, a grade 11 drop-out, Education Minister as was the case here in Ontario under MH. But it happens. I guess it's not really a question of being qualified but whether the optics 'send the wrong message' and if so, how significant is that message? On a similar note, I've often wondered, must all the CEO's of tobacco companies be smokers? If so, they're seriously narrowing the pool of candidates qualified to run a company. But if not, what does it say that a CEO won't even use his own product?

It's often no more of a choice than 'gay' or 'straight'. And the prejudice that a fat person can't be a good person, be it this lady or Rob Ford also astounds me in this day and age. And no one seems to think that a person with a Masters in Education might make a good Minister of Health. Bullshit double standard.

"Sarah Hoffman weight insults show sexism still an issue in politics, expert says"I had to look to see what CBC's fat person "expert" looked like. Guess which one she is.

Bullshit double standard. There's no choice. It's an illusion. We are back eddies in the ide of entropy, ultimately random at a subatomic level. We do what our brain chemicals tell us to do.

For a party in severe trouble* one would think that the remaining PC's would be smart enough to not cause themselves more grief with comments that can be charitably described (at best) as being 'good ol' boy dumb'.
* word is they're $4 million in debt, their main fundraiser they've had since the Klein days just quit, and business donations have dried up as the economy keeps getting worse

No, everyone's going to judge all they want and on any criteria they want. It's just not fashionable to talk about it is all.
