Sounds like some missile testing exercises are in order.

Personally, I think we should follow precedent by shooting down their bomber and then blaming it on Ukraine.

Do the Americans still send B-52's to poke at Russian airspace? If not maybe they should.

That or the NATO jets in Eastern Europe could do it.

Does anyone actually see Russia backing down without direct NATO involvement ? Aren't they designed for sustained isolationism ?

Shoot one down, and blame it on North Korea.

Send up an F22 to greet them. The Bear can make it home on 2 engines, right?

Obviously allowed to enter US airspace. We have the capability to intercept them, so the US could do the same 10 fold.
The big dogs are just sniffing each other at the gate.

Perhaps it's time for the West to start flexing their muscle - I know we don't spend what we should, but combined NATO far outspends Russia and all the other troublemakers.

Russia's lack of numbers against NATO is more than made up by its political will. NATO is politically weak and a shadow of its Cold War self. It will do nothing.

$1:
Russia arrests Ukrainian officers for 'war crimes'

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28707018

This is their next move. Declare a humanitarian crisis and use it as a pretense for intervening.

Just a matter of time now. There is only so long they can continue to fight the battle by proxy, it keeps them at a disadvantage.

No, he already lost. If he was smart he would annex Ukraine in 20 years. But he is idiot, so we will rather became part of Australia than part of Russia.

I hope you are right. I read this from RT:

$1:
Moscow calls for immediate ceasefire in Ukraine
Moscow called for an immediate stop to the fighting in Ukraine and for the effective resolution of humanitarian problems, the Russian Representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday. According to him, any attempt to resolve the crisis forcefully in Ukraine will be fatal. More than ten thousand people have been killed in Kiev’s punitive operation in southeastern Ukraine since April, said the Ukrainian parliamentary group ‘For peace and stability’ on Friday, citing volunteer groups working in the east of the country.

http://rt.com/news/line/2014-08-08/#68040

Seeing as no member the UN council has accepted the legitimacy of the Crimea annexation, I think it is fair to say that any resolution would need to include the acceptance of Ukraine's territorial integrity, which I don't believe Putin will accept.

So either he is setting up the optics to look like the "good guy", or he is genuinely looking for a ceasefire.

Thus far, nothing he has done seems genuine.
