This is great news since, they should all be seaworthy just in time for their decommissioning. [B-o]

How would you like to sail around the world in a big sewer pipe?

No thanks.

Such a dismal story from start to finish.... The sheer concept of purchasing some other country's second hand & out dated death traps rather than employing Canadians to build Canadian Subs for Canada it lunacy.

For the amount of money already spent and the additional money that will be spent to finally get these things functional... And then end up buying new ones within 10 years due to being too old, Canada could have had several modern and fully capable subs in the water right now.

This and the Sea Kings are just one of many sad situations for Canada's military.

Each government keeps going on how they support our troops and want the best for our military and sovereignty, yet all they do is either talk talk talk.... Or they try and cheap out and buy the first 3rd rate item they can find on the Dollarama shelf, slap on a new sticker to make it look new, hand it to our troops/navy/air force, and then we read up in the news how some soldier died or was seriously injured.

... And then they have to fight tooth and nail for compensation and support while they try and prove they deserve/qualify for it to VA.

Cheap ass politicians don't want the public to think they're blowing money on things the country doesn't need, yet does, so they end up looking like bigger idiots as they cut corners by buying hand-me-downs that cost even more to fix up than what they would have originally paid if they did things properly in the first damn place.

Blame Harper, Martin, the Cons, Liberals, NDP, The Bloc & Green, it doesn't matter.... Not one single political party has shown they have any competence towards the Canadian Military & its funding.

Celebrating this is like celebrating when some guy crows that his Commodore VIC-20 or ColecoVision are still in perfect working order. Still unclear on who should be more ashamed of this. Canada (or the Liberals specifically) for buying the goddamn things in the first place, or Britain who knew how obsolete and dangerous they were yet pawned them off on an ally anyway.

I once had to make a trip on the USS Toledo. While the food was absolutely first class it was still not something I'd ever want to do again.

God bless the squiddies who do this as a career! [B-o]

My dad contemplated transferring to subs.....once. The personal hygiene or lack thereof, with accompanying BO bothered him too much. Mind you, this was in the early 70s. My uncle(his brother ) did all his sea time on one as a QM. Except for a few years in Naden he did the rest of his 25 in the Octopus's Garden
