And they obviously have no single point of failure across their networks and services, which makes them the most reliable!

Actually, one of the things I just discovered at the store worries me. They were accepting cash, or credit, but their debit was down. So they must use a different network to process credit transactions. Which means they store that information. 8O What could go wrong?

Quite hilarious watching the news on TV where they were talking to people "on the street" who were having meltdowns over this because they rely on tech and don't carry cash. FFS.

When I was in the store, the guy in front of me was being told he had to use cash or credit. I had a 20 in my hand and said "Remember these?" We laughed. He said he spends those too fast.

The fact that with one Telecom company going down, a large swathe of the country loses communications ability and the ability to engage in commerce, the government should take notice and do something about these monopolies. It’s a borderline national security issue at this point.

Working as intended. Bell, Telus and Rodgers are the backbone. Everyone else was bought out.

Nor will they. It'll be 'a bad update to firmware' or some bullshit. No one will ever say that some underpaid fresh from college summer student misconfigured the BGP, and it was in a remote location that took 12 hours to drive to. Bad for the stock price for the shareholders to know things are so bad that a simple fat finger error knocks over all the dominoes.

I always carry a couple hundred in cash. Interac is only reliable until it isn't. Then you are stuck in a restaurant with no way to pay the bill. What surprises me is so many companies are dependent on one service.
