Sure.

They can't even tell "what" started the fire let alone confirm that it was started by a human but, hey don't let the lack of evidence and burden of proof get in the way scoring political points.

The Liberals are getting the idea on how to curb what they perceive as bad behaviour by their citizens.

Have a glass of wine with supper, we impound your vehicle, flick a cigarette butt out the window, we impound your vehicle, drive in the left lane, we impound your vehicle.

$1:
The province has suggested that drivers who are caught flicking their cigarette butts out the window could also have their cars impounded.

The possibilities are endless. ROTFL

The man blamed for one of the most destructive wildfires in Canadian history says he feels intense guilt for the damage it did.

"There's no other way to feel. People lost their jobs, they lost their homes, their land was all burnt up," Mike Barre told CBC News.

Barre was fined $3,000 on Nov. 29 for carelessly discarding a cigarette that started the McLure-Barriere forest fire in southwestern British Columbia in August 2003.

Are you suggesting that because the 2003 Barrier fire was started by a cigarette butt that all forest fires are caused by poorly discarded cigarette butts?

Sorry, but until all facets of our Gov'ts stop jumping to conclusions and actually find this mythical video of the offender tossing a cigarette butt out the window of his car I'll reserve judgement on how the fire started and what should be done to the unknown accused.

But, one thing I do know is that alot of the fire issues could have been mitigated had the Province spent more time managing the forests and less time screwing the pooch when it comes to our forests.

What sort of management do you suggest?

Burn baby burn.

We've put out fires so effectively for decades that we've created the perfect environment for these massive wildfires. So maybe in the future it's time to let mother nature take over and instead of supressing every fire that starts let them burn, clean and renew the forest. It's not like the Gov't hasn't been told to do this in the past but, for some reason they see to think it unnecessary despite evidence to the contrary.

As for the homes within the forest this is basically a homeowners guide to protecting your home from a forest fire and if you watch the news it's apparent that alot of people have no idea how to prevent their homes from burning down despite living in the middle of a forest.

Used to do microwave Internet to home services which required a line of sight from the house to a tower. It drove me nuts how many people built "gingerbread' homes with trees right up to the house.
You live in BC, you want a view, preferably of a mountain, lake or meadow. Move to the Amazon if you want to see jungle.
I still laugh at the sheer number of people who said "I can SEE the mountain with transmitters. It's right behind that tree!"
Here they're removing most of the standing deadwood to grind up for the new biomass plant. Then piling the scrap for controlled burns. Sides of highways cleared for firebreaks.
But one summer with weather like down there could spel disaster, there's hundreds of miles of just trees interspersed with old dry bug kill.
