The big thing here was these protestors performed their protest inside of one of Russia's holiest churches. Had they kept their protest outside I doubt the reaction would be as harsh.

Likewise, had this very same protest taken place inside a mosque in Canada these girls would be going to prison (perhaps for a longer time) on hate speech charges and it would be called 'justice' by most of the ersatz libertarians complaining about the Russians right now.

No hate speech. you're overstating things as usual. If they had asked Allah to get rid of Harper, that's not hate speech. They would have been charged with trespassing and creating a disturbance. They might have also been severely mauled if the mosque was full at the time.

What Pussy Riot did was not even close to being serious enough to even needing to be arrested - in the West. But they did it in Russia, inside a Church. It was brave, but it was foolish. Like Bart said, outised the church, they would have got escorted off site and recieved a finger wagging.

I argue that it was not over the top for western standards given that the same actions conducted in any mosque in Canada would land the same girls in jail under Canadian law - and possibly for a longer time.

But, yeah, if they defiled a Canadian church I figure they'd be allowed to do so.
