I don't understand why there is any hesitation on banning Huawei technology - there is no way in hell we would ever have let a Soviet company invest and build our infrastructure during the Cold War (assuming they had good technology).

Whether or not Huawei is controlled by the Chinese government is irrelevant - Chinese law stipulates that every Chinese company must comply with any request for information from the Chinese government. Does anyone really think they wouldn't give up dirt on a western politician or corporate executive if the Chinese government wanted it? Of course they wouldn't, especially one run by a former PLA soldier and engineer.
