Why should he be fined anything, don't they have free speech in UK? Are poppies protected under the law somehow?

A symbol that remembers countless thousands, millions of young guys (mostly) who died to protect our freedoms certainly rates veneration in my world andy. A lot of people seem to feel that way. Obviously not in yours.

The mere threat of burning a Koran caused the world to hold it’s breath, with even Saint Obama chipping in, but burning the symbol of our ancestors sacrifices in battle gets a 50 quid fine......

This piece of shit burnt the poppies at the end of the two minute silence, next to a War Memorial filled with people honouring their relatives who died in the Service of their country on Remembrance Sunday. That's ok with you though is it?

Veneration, fine. Banning free speech, not so fine in my book. Enforce veneration isn't real veneration. So is poppy burning prohibited or not?

The British govt did not threaten any action when the Koran was going to be burned. Is Koran burning also illegal in Britain? I thought they had free speech there too. What people do in response to Koran or poppy burning is a totally different question that what the judicial response is.

It was my understanding the poppies were burnt during the two minutes,
along with them shouting chants of the usual garbage, not that it matters much.

Only guarantees it will happen this year as well, in more places and with
louder voices.

Fucking shame.

So you would make the poppy a protected symbol? Or would the 1000 pound fine that was the maximum possible assuage your feelings?

It would andy. That guy went out of his way to insult something very dear to many Brits and Canadians, right on the one day a year that we gather to remember those who died in combat.

This Judge gave the lowest fine he could.

It's another example of our leaders (and I consider a Judge to be in a leadership role) pissing on what we poor plebs hold in high esteem in order to seem equitable to a bunch of people intent on causing great offence as they live off welfare and hate everything about British culture.

You not getting that is fine but try and show some respect for what others hold dear. I do.

Well if a 1000 pound fine would make you happy, you're easier pleased than I am. You really think a 1000 pound fine would deter him? I'm much more interested in looking at the activities of this dickhead that might break the law.

But if he's a legal UK resident, and all he does is burn poppies then I think that's a price the UK has to pay for freedom. Same with Canada.

Nah, that's just a cop-out andy. Free speech doesn't mean a license to insult something so dearly held.

If you think pissing on the graves of veterans is ok, well you have very different ethics and values than I do.

We should leave it at that before I tell you to fuck off.

Of course. Let em burn as many as they want. Das Kapital, Origin of Species, Pali Cannon too (since you think I'm a raving commie). It will just spur sales of those books. Any symbol I can think of.

They get arrested, the Muslim gets 50 pounds.

Oh, and andy, here is your redistribution ideas at work:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-12664346

$1:
He said his wages were £480 a month, on top of which he recieves a monthly £792 in benefits from the state.

Choudhury must pay a £15 victim surcharge on top of his fine.

Guess he will use the state money to pay the fine, how nice.
