Polls also suggest that the Conservatives have more support from Canadians than other parties. So if the Conservative Party has more support than the other parties that must mean that the other parties are even more out of touch.

KorbenDeck KorbenDeck: Polls also suggest that the Conservatives have more support from Canadians than other parties. So if the Conservative Party has more support than the other parties that must mean that the other parties are even more out of touch. That's the way I read it. On the environment, though, they are more out of touch than the other parties. But as every politician knows, when the economy runs into trouble, the environment issue rides in the back seat.

Korben, if that were true, why do they hold a minority government?
You are grossly misinformed. Individually, the other parties have less support than the Conservatives, but combined they are supported by the majority of Canadians.
It's a simple math equation: The Conservatives hold 143 seats. The Liberals hold 77, the Bloc hold 47, the NDP hold 36, there are two independent seats, and three are vacant. Now, if you've passed first grade math, you shouldn't have to get out your calculator to figure out that 77 + 47 + 36 + 2 = 162 > 143.
Math - it works, bitches!

Math - it works, bitches! 143 = 7 seats short of a majority. If there is an election triggered in the near future, bet on Harper getting th majority. Also, the Bloc's 47 seats don't really reflect Canada, as their candidates run only in Quebec, and no separatist can really be labelled a true Canadian. See? Math does work. Except mine isn't flawed. Cheers. -J.

Considering those seats were collected when Harper was able to launch attack ads on enemies that didn't have much fodder on him, I doubt he will be able to hold those seats considering how big of a target he has made himself.

Math - it works, bitches! 143 = 7 seats short of a majority. But not actually a majority, so still a minority. One hundred and sixty-two seats is a clear majority. $1: If there is an election triggered in the near future, bet on Harper getting th majority. Also, the Bloc's 47 seats don't really reflect Canada, as their candidates run only in Quebec, and no separatist can really be labelled a true Canadian. Whatever your opinion of the Bloc, they make up a part of the Canadian government. Since Quebec is still a province in Canada, and enough people voted for them to get 47 seats, they count whether you like it or not. Since they are also not the Conservative Party, they make up part of the majority of seats not held by the Conservative Party. $1: See? Math does work. Except mine isn't flawed. Your math contains elements of bigotry, making it systematically incorrect. Mine only contains elements of unbiased truth.

If I'm biased, show me how. All I've done is present the numbers, I haven't used my opinion of any of the political parties (I don't vote for any of the parties that currently hold seats in Parliament, if you must know) to fudge the math.

Every votes for the environment in a poll. Actually forking out money for it is a different question.
