I was kind of surprised there were polar bears on 'The Rock'. Labrador, I could see it. But the island!?!

Learn something every day. :)

300 lbs for a male bear sounds pretty small. It probably had something wrong with it.

You're right. Where the victim in this case is white it would not have been newsworthy.

$1:
He said the bear beat in doors and broke windows at three other homes, and killed some sheep and ducks at a nearby stable without stopping to eat.

“It seemed like it was killing for the sake of killing. It wasn't hungry.”

At one home, the bear “just broke the windows out of each side of the house and went on,” he said. “It seemed like he was in a bad mood.”

Damn punk Polar Bears just out having some fun terrorizing the neighbourhood, giving all bears a bad reputation....

In that part of NL, yup... extreme north-west, close to Labrador.
I spent some time around there when I was young and near the Québec/Labrador border just across from NL. Saw a few polar bears, from far away... thankfully.

I'd like to go back but I want to drive from here, straight north, then east along the Trans-Labrador highway, then south to the Québec/Labrador border... 2 118 km, 36 hour drive... a lot of it on dirt roads. 8O
