I guess it's okay to rape and molest 13 year old girls in Switzerland.

I guess the courts do not do "hearsay".
The US couldn't provide the necessary documents...

Regardless of what I think of it, if the US can't come up with what they should, they do not have a case.

They wouldn't provide the docs - likely because they show that he did get a cushy deal and did fulfill the terms of it. Better to blame it on the Swiss than admit they screwed up.

Polanski plead guilty to the charges. Period. The Swiss are out of line asking for the court documents because what they wanted to do was to hold the trial over again. The man is a fugitive from justice and he should be sent back to the US to face that justice.

He already had served his sentence. Since the US cannot provide docs that show that is untrue, legally, Switzerland made the right decision.
I guess the US have to wait until Polanski leaves Switzerland for any other country than France or Poland, and start over, this time with a full file.

Brenda, he fled the country before he was even sentenced. How can he have served his sentence?

Film director Roman Polanski arrived at his Paris apartment yesterday (after a stop in London) having fled the United States just hours before he was to have been sentenced in a California court for his admitted unlawful sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl last March.

He did the crime, he should do the time. I can see the point of view of the Swiss--the US is these days a completely batshit nation. But still, it's a serious crime, Polanski fled like a coward. A good compromise would be to have him do his time in Switzerland.

Bart this quote from the article pretty much sums up what a weasel this guy is:

In exchange, the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sentence him to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. However, he was released after 42 days by an evaluator who deemed him mentally sound and unlikely to offend again. The judge responded by saying he was going to send Polanski back to jail for the remainder of the 90 days and that afterward he would ask Polanski to agree to a "voluntary deportation." Polanski then fled the country on the eve of his Feb. 1, 1978, sentencing

So he could have done 48 days in Jail and would have been allowed to leave with no further obligations to the justice system, whether you agree or not with the original bullshit sentence.

I don't know if this is "Celebrity Justice" where getting off
with a sentence to be served in his mansion is the norm or was it because it was requested by the US. Drugging and raping a 13 year old is not a small matter.
