$1:
However, the Canadian bombers were shunned by the government when they returned from the war because their missions incurred heavy civilian casualties. They were never formally recognized until now.

Political correctness 70 years ago or not, it's about time these awards were finally handed out.

Pretty damn disgraceful, they did the job they were asked to do, then got the cold shoulder upon their return home because the optics of their missions weren't pleasant?

It was the most dangerous thing that we asked our young men to do on our behalf in WWII ... to be part of a bomber crew.
For shame.

I wonder if anyone on the other side ever sat back and said, 'Well I was just doing the job they asked me to do.'

My grandpa never made it out of the war. RAF pilot, shot down March 1945.

Yeah, they did.

What does that have to do with the CDN government neglecting Bomber Command vets?

Nothing, of course.

I smell some Nuremberg trolling coming from Xort.

Because the optics of a mission are important.

You seemed upset that the government tried to ignore the actions they ordered because they were horrific.

I was just wondering if you ever thought about the soldiers that were on the losing side might have the same feelings. "I was just doing my job, it was a hard job and it was a dangerous one, why don't my government give me a medal for it?"

I'm not concerned about Hitler's foot soldiers thinking that they should get medals (or not).

My concern is for our vets getting the recognition they deserve, not the "other guys".

Is that too cold for you?
