Space is not a f...ing battlefield. wtf is wrong with people, weapons in space? WTF?? f..ing americans!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we promoted peace in the world instead of selfishness we wouldn't have to worry about a-holes trying to blow up satellites.

Not much of a surprise given the US military's dependence on space for communications, intelligence etc. Frankly, I'm surprised they don't have a couple dozen space fighters based on the Space shuttle (or something similar) already.

They didn't because it is against a treaty the US signed. A treaty they are considering leaving.

Yeah, big surprise there.
What is the point in signing a treaty if it doesn't mean anything? Is anyone going to take a treaty signed with the american government seriously if they back out of this one? I guess it wouldn't be the first time!!

Too early, they have to wait 100 -250 years.

As I understand it, the Outer Space Treaty doesn't forbid the development of weapons platforms for use in space, but rather WMD systems (Like FOBS) and military installations.

After all, several nations that signed the Outer Space Treaty developed ASAT weapons based on the surface (USA, USSR, China), so why not build a squadron of fighters based at an air force base somewhere, ready to be rolled out in times of need?

Not really ridiculous at all. it is conceivable that platforms such as the ISS may need to be weaponised someday to protect them from ground or air based anti-satellite weapons. same goes for spacecraft at launch. The exploration of space is following the same path as the exploration and eventual weaponisation of the seas and the air.

The day we see a manned space station, military satellite, or spacecraft in the process of launch, orbit, or return to earth shot down is the day we will see weapons in space for the purposes of satellite defence, and soon after satellites designed specifically to destroy other satellites.
