Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
WikiLeaks is an interesting organization of assholes with a lot of power to affect society.

I like them.

So you support putting the lives of those who work in and with the military in danger by releasing sensitive material?

When it interferes with the safety of government employees, yes.

It's always a tough call. Certainly for Iraq, I would err on the side of freedom of the press for a number of reasons. First off, the war is pretty much over there now, with the Americans pulling out. Second, it certainly looks as if the war was based on a bunch of lies by the government. When senior government officials lie to start a war, I think the people have a right to get to the bottom of that. Also, it appears that Americans actively targetted reporters in Iraq, so it's not just the safety of the soldiers at play, but that of the reporters too.

There used to be something called 'responsible journalism' but I guess that doesn't matter anymore.

By the way, when you see things like this held up as examples of journalism, is it any wonder that some of use see reporters as disloyal and even traitorous?

Except that the DOD investigations showed that Wikileaks did none of the above.

$1:
The online leak of thousands of secret military documents from the war in Afghanistan by the website WikiLeaks did not disclose any sensitive intelligence sources or methods, the Department of Defense concluded.

How dare the organization, that has leaked more classified documents since it's founding that all other reporting organizations combined over the last century, fail to act irresponsibly.

Whatever, wars over, who cares at this point?

I just caught a bit of "A Few Good Men" last night. Nicholson would spew on about "putting people's lives in danger" to excuse any of his actions, including ordering that marine to be given a code red. That's the road to military dictatorship, when no matter what they do is excused with they're protecting our lives and exposing it puts them in danger.

Anyone who sees Wikileaks as a method to bring to light wrong doing and corruption, and anyone who is also forbidden from disclosing such abuses by law.

I know, preaching to the choir. :)

As for these new documents, the Pentagon was invited to sit down with Wikileaks and review all the data and vet the data to prevent any such leaks from occurring. The Pentagon refused, and instead managed to put Wikileaks on a 'list' and got all their donations treated the same as if they were fundraising for Hamas.

After of course, the trumped up rape accusations were dealt with.
