DrCaleb DrCaleb:

I don't get it. So do you mean "Therefore, Yay E-Cigarettes! They get the kids off the nicotine?"

No, banning the sale of e-cigarrettes to kids keeps them off nicotine before they become irrevocably addicted.

Fixing the problem before it starts is cheaper in the long run.

Ah, I see. So you don't believe the Canadian Study that found E-Cigarettes Are More Likely to Help Smokers Quit Than Traditional Nicotine Replacement Therapies.

You think E-cigarettes start people smoking. You're not on board with the science that says they help people quit.

I assume you have what you consider a superior study to back that up, because surely you're not one of those people who doubt science.

Oh wait, I didn't actually read your link. Hang on.

Edit

Nope. Can't find anything in there about E-cigarettes leading to nicotine use. Just did a quick browse though.

Seems reasonable. I'm glad they didn't ban them altogether. God forbid the government ever lets people decide for themsleves how they choose to live their lives.

Thing is, teens are taking up e-cigs because they're cool... and legal... and they can smoke them in places you can't smoke cigarettes. Most of them are not, and I'm emphasizing the word "NOT", using them because they're trying to quit cigarettes.

He's saying that teens become addicted to nicotine more easily and with lower levels, so banning e-cigs so that they can't smoke them will hopefully prevent them becoming addicted to nicotine. Your links are about quitting smoking, not becoming addicted to nicotine as a result of the e-cigs. While it may not lead to full blown smoking, being addicted to nicotine still isn't a good thing.

Exactly. E-cigs may help a long term smoker quit, but for teens they are a gateway to harder drugs. Cigarettes have been shown to be the primary gateway drug, rather than pot or booze.

This legislation doesn't hurt cig smokers trying to use e-cigs to quit at all - it just regulates e-cigs in the same way that regular cigs are regulated. time to quit whining.

And what I'm saying is what's that based on? I offered up science to show how E-cigarettes can get you off nicotine.

What have you got in the way of studies or anything else showing E-cigarettes get teens or anybody else onto the nicotine.

Believe it or not just saying something over and over again is not science.

First time I said it actually. You've posited that e-cigs don't get non-smokers using cigs. Where's your science to make that claim?

So we're left with what's reasonable. E-cigs can be used to ingest nicotine. Are you saying that's good for kids? (or anybody else). You want kids to be using nicotine? Really?

All this legislation does is treat e-cigs like regular cigs. Adults who want to use them to quit smoking are free to do so. For kids starting off to smoke, this makes it a bit harder for them to get them.
