So far, the city's four universities have remained silent on how they will deal with students who wear the niqab if the bill is passed.
"Everybody is waiting to see how this plays out," said Chris Mota, director of media relations at Concordia University. "If it becomes law, obviously we will have to act accordingly."
Mahrouse predicted that, if adopted, the bill will meet widespread resistance. "I, for one, would feel hypocritical to teach in a place that bans the niqab," she said.
