A bill that would bar a woman wearing a face veil from receiving government services is an attack on women's rights in the guise of defending equality of the sexes, say the Anglican diocese of Montreal and the Simone de Beauvoir Institute.

Um, why isn't the Anglican diocese of Montreal going after Muslims who require women to wear aniqab? Isn't that truly where the attack on woman's rights exist?

So far, the city's four universities have remained silent on how they will deal with students who wear the niqab if the bill is passed.

"Everybody is waiting to see how this plays out," said Chris Mota, director of media relations at Concordia University. "If it becomes law, obviously we will have to act accordingly."

Mahrouse predicted that, if adopted, the bill will meet widespread resistance. "I, for one, would feel hypocritical to teach in a place that bans the niqab," she said.
