The end of FPTP was one of the few election promises I liked from him. Ahh well. I shouldn't be too surprised.

The funny thing is that if he tried to get any kind of reform to pass, the opposition would be screaming bloody murder.

I'm not terribly surprised. Electoral reform is a major undertaking and takes a lot of time and politicking to get done. there are more pressing concerns for Trudeau.

FPTP has worked since 1867. Let's not screw with it.

JT and the Libs liked a ranked ballot idea like STV. Ridings are there, winner has 51% and is accountable to the riding. And of course 99% of NDP voters are gonna put Liberal as choice #2 Mulcair & Greens wanted proportional, which somewhat addresses overall vote and increases seats for other parties, but will have some MPs not accountable to ridings. Tories don't give a shit about changing. Two party US or THEM with a smattering of others is fine. They'd stand to lose most, most of the time. Voters: sadly, most of them don't give a flying fuck about reform. Most because there's more pressing issues, some because like Monarchists truh-dition is more important than anything. I think even if he struck some sort of commission on it, he'd take flak for wasting money. Even if they went to STV and 5 proportional MPs per province he'd take flak for wasting money adding seats.
Trudeau should've been straightforward honest about that. Voters aren't interested enough to make it a priority.

Promising to change the entire voting system for the next election was just dumb, considering all the basic research and public consultation such a task requires. And all in his first mandate! .
Now after foolishly guaranteeing to change it immediately he's got to walk it back.
Classic overreach and amateur hour on the part of whomever put that in his election campaign

They did that stupid online survey, it didn't even ask or mention 'proportional'.
Trudeau probably knew it was over when Nathan Cullen was on that committee. They didn't have anyone with enough skill and his desire for proportionality to compete. Cullen's gonna make hay for years over 'broken promises'. I don't know how you could address majority, riding accountability and overall democracy without maybe adding seats accountable to the province but that's complicated. Voter turnout is falling even with just marking an X, choosing ranks and provincial members would probably scare most people away. Only the elitists who stayed awake in Math8 could figure it out!

"Oh cool, I can vote for the parties that want the status quo in ranked order now"
Hehehe. Yea, like we expected Politicians to be the architects of their own downfall.

The surveys ask about FPTP, STV, MMP, but no DOTP
Meanwhile the Republicans are already implementing GFYS and STFU
