Some people have way too much time on their hands.

Woman can move, kid can go play in the park once in a while... make a schedule.

Instead, she goes whining to the authorities with this useless complaint,
and the taxpayer picking up the tab.

Wonderful.

$1:
...city’s first investigation under Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights related to unreasonable and excessive noise.”

A kid practicing hoops for 30 minutes is not unreasonable nor excessive.
Did she not notice the hoop and how close she would be to it before deciding to rent the unit? I mean it's not like they put the hoop up AFTER she moved in just to piss her off.

If I was the worker in charge of this case, I'd tell the woman to piss off and send her a bill for the time wasted.

This is just ridiculous enough for it to go to Court and have her win.

Another shinning example of the my way or the highway mentality that pervades society today.

Ms Langdon has a lot of people here in Peterborough talking, and not in a nice way.

I think she needs to pack her shit and move out into the boonies.

If Ms Langdon doesn't want to hear kids playing outside of her rented house then maybe she should pack up her cats and move into a condo. I can't believe the environmental commissioner got involved with this, he must have way to much spare time on his hands in which case he should let go.

Wow.

Maybe just tell her to upgrade her windows...

You know, something simple and relatively cheap to do.

Doesn't actually say in the article if the Environment Ministry is investigating. Just that she called them, and then issued a press release. Normal SOP for the Environemnt guys here is to show up with decibel meters and see if it's off the charts--industrial machinery, blasting and stuff. They don't usually concern themsleves with nuisance noise. Don't know about Ontario though.

Sounds like Ms Langdon has a history of being a bitch:
$1:
When Ms Olauson’s son was three, she says Ms Langdon approached him about turning his tricycle around on her driveway.
“She came up to me, and said she had to have a chat with Noah,” says Ms Olauson. “He was three. It’s not even her driveway, she rents it.”

Ms Olauson is the neighbour on the other side of Ms Langdon

Ms Langdon is sounding more and more like some crazy cat lady.

Yep, someone who causes shit wherever she parks her carcass. If she lived next door to me it would be non-stop music playing, bike tuning, lawn cutting and power tool using. All within the legal parameters of course. 8)

On one hand I can't stand loud people that feel they have a right to be noisy, on the other hand I don't much care for the sort of people that bitch about all the things other people do and try to limit and control them.

Overall I'd like to blame people that are against urban sprawl because packing people close in just makes everyone unhappy.

Urban sprawl is a problem. So is this lady though. She needs to learn to co-exist a little; basketballs are noisy but 30 mins a day is well within reason. And she is a recent renter, whereas it sounds like the "noisy" neighbours are long-time home owners.

It's 58 dBA measured at the source of the complaint in my area, must be for a sustained period.

Normal conversation is approx' 60 dBA.

Oddly I have a basketball court and playground right across the street from where I live since it's a school-ground and I can hear the kids playing ball all summer. Some of them swear pretty loudly too.

I just turn up the volume on whatever I'm doing or go for a walk if I need some peace and quiet since the river is a few minutes away.

For some reason the hockey players are a lot more quiet then the basketball guys. I wonder why that is.

In any case this lady needs to learn that life isn't all about you and your selfish little bitchy needs. Grow up lady.

The article also says that she is a writer. If that's the case why not simply change rooms or go into the upstairs area or basement?
