Your claim that the Federal Government is good with this company isn't quite true.

Huawei faces exclusion from planned Canada government network
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada indicated strongly on Tuesday it would exclude Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei Technologies Co Ltd HWT.UL from helping to build a secure Canadian government communications network because of possible security risks.
http://ca.reuters.com/article/businessN ... CB20121009You are right. It isn't McGuinty's job to ensure the security of Canada and if he wants to spend Ontario Taxpayers money on a questionable Chinese Company then more power to him since it's his decision but, if his largess compromises national security in any way shape or form then I wonder how it'll be explained away.
This shouldn't be a partisan issue since national security is the responsibility of every citizen and if the Conservatives are stupid enough to use this company after the red flags that have been put up they should be drawn and quartered but by the same token McGuinty shouldn't get a pass just because he's Ontario's Premier and a Liberal.
Hey, if the Feds don't block a foreign company from setting up shop on home soil ( which is their right
AND responsibility to do) then the feds are implicitly endorsing the company and no provincial, municipal or private sector actor has grounds to oppose it for national security or national interest reasons (which is not their jurisdiction). The Conservative reponse on this item is pretty tepid, suggesting that they have no plans to do much except mug for the cameras in response to the headline du jour:

"The government's going to be choosing carefully in the construction of this network, and it has invoked the national security exception for the building of this network," Andrew MacDougall, spokesman for the Conservative prime minister, said.
"I'll leave it to you if you think ... Huawei should be a part of a Canadian government security system," MacDougall said.
I'll say this: so far I haven't seen anything to suggest this company is a real treat, just a lot of jabber-mouthing from US politicians with less than a month before same politicians are up for eleciton, so we should thake this whole thing with a grain of salt.
