Bigger news right now could be that the Habs just picked up Shea Weber from Nashville in exchange for PK Subban.

Hopefully Stamkos is smart enough to pick up the phone and talk to Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf before he takes any calls from Toronto. Leaving the Leafs for those two must have been as big a morale cloud-clearing event as when Barad-dur toppled and all the smog above Mordor got blown away by the new fresh wind.

The Habs needed to move PK before July. They are both great players, PK with a higher upside, but Weber is the best defenseman in the NHL. He will finally be a well known superstars with plenty of coverage in Montreal. They will love him there.

P.K still has some upside, and he has some creativity on offense, but he is a hothead and not nearly as good a defenseman. Weber might be the best D in the league.

This is a major surprise. Why he waited so long is beyond me. He may live to regret this decision and he took a lot less money, though will pay a lot less taxes.
