The tough journey to obtain a nursing degree only mounted to Jennifer Burbella’s already existing anxiety and depression, her attorney detailed in a federal lawsuit filed in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Burbella sought treatment from the school’s Counseling and Psychological Service Center in 2011, the suit contends.

In addition to the stress of a daunting final exam, Burbella was left “breaking down and crying” because she was unable to reach her professor in a phone call to request disability accommodations.

Holy shit!! If she couldn't handle the stress of the course work, then how the hell would she deal with the real stress she'd face in an ER or in most wards....dead, dying suffering people needing a professional, and she has her little breakdown.

doesn't matter what the course was....she was having issues throughout her coursework, and if she can't handle that kind of 'stress' she shouldn't be in nursing.

Exactamundo. And even if she had gotten the help she thinks she needed, can she prove that she could have handled the rigors of nursing, or the training program for that matter? It's not a easy job. Not by a long shot and stress is often a big part of it.

Don't understand people like her. You are young and full of energy. And you spend your energy for suing the university instead of studying and trying harder. Just don't understand.
And also if she is so stressful how she will help other people. Nursing is very difficult, very often they have double shifts, etc. After she will sue the hospital for overworking?

I had a student nurse during my 5 months of recovery in the U of A hospital. Her problem was that she became emotionally attached to her patients. She would come into my room and start crying over the lady dieing from cancer. I had a private room and I thought it was a good place to come and get refocused.

I was always trying to be the cheerleader, but then she admitted that she would go into the cancer lady's room and cry over me.

One afternoon she came into my room and just burst into tears and said she wasn't cut out to be a nurse and that was it, never saw her again.

Academically she seemed sound, she just cared to much about people. Hard to find fault there.

It's not a job I could do. Mind you my grandmother worked as a chief surgical nurse and as a nurse at Matsqui Correctional, seeing all sorts of shit, yet she was the most compassionate person I've known. She was able to keep her calm in the midst of some truly horrible situations. She did this all the while caring for my grandfather who was dying from ALS.

Some people are not cut out for certain jobs no matter how much they want to do them. anything with stress and dealing with pain and suffering are ones she should avoid. Good outlook in floral arranging I hear.

So, she can't handle stress and it's somehow the university's fault? Someone sure is heeding the call of entitlement.

Lot's of low stress jobs in nursing, they don't all work in ER or even in hospitals. But somebody who's anxiety and depression affects their life this much probably isn't even cut out for those jobs. Or many other jobs. Even with disability laws, you still have to show your disability allows you to actually do the job. Let's hope the lawsuit is dismissed.
